These workshops in terms of organisation/content from yourself, are the most powerful marketing tool in our portfolio. Everybody went away with a positive message and were motivated to do more.

Background

Briar Associates have an excellent reputation for working with stakeholders to collaboratively develop resources for energy efficiency and carbon saving. Over the last 25 years, we have been engaged in many programmes and have been privileged to work closely with the Carbon Trust in disseminating energy saving opportunities.

Briar were selected as the lead consultant for the major CLCSS programme on the basis of our 25 years experience working with Local Authorities to drive school energy efficiency and our successful delivery of the Climate East Midlands, SCoRE programme that worked with all of the 9 East Midlands Local Authorities in an award winning carbon reduction programme.

CLCSS Programme

CLCSS collaborated with over 40 Local Authorities across England to develop, pilot and deliver fast-track energy saving tools to enable estates and sustainability staff to assist their network of schools to deliver savings. The tools focused on practical enabling activities to deliver and demonstrate savings and were created to be used by the whole school community. A few of the key tools developed include:

  • Schools energy & carbon monitoring & benchmarking tool
  • Fast-track saving, whole school resources
  • Taking control of your heating resource
  • Getting the benefit from AMR
  • Invest-to-Save – Project Identification tool

The programme achieved a demonstrated 14% £1.1M p.a. saving in energy consumption across the 500 pilot schools, with some schools saving over 30% energy consumption. More importantly, the programme drove a plethora of activities within the school community, engaging pupils in sustainability and energy saving.

This programme transferred knowledge and expertise to the Local Authority, sustainability staff and it is pleasing that many of the CLCSS programmes continue to roll-out the resources to their school network. Briar continue to support a range of Local Authorities, Colleges, Academies and private schools to achieve substantial energy and financial savings.
