Briar Associates have an excellent reputation for working with Local Authorities to identify and deliver wide ranging energy, carbon and cost savings. Over the last 25 years, we have been engaged to manage many high profile energy efficiency programmes within council offices, schools, libraries, leisure facilities and throughout public sector properties.
Key programmes have included the Collaborative Low Carbon Schools (CLCSS) programme which developed techniques for over 40 Local Authorities to pilot and deliver fast-track energy savings across 500 schools, and the Climate East Midlands, SCoRE programme that worked with all of the 9 East Midlands Local Authorities in an award winning carbon reduction programme.
Energy Audit Programme
London Borough of Merton are one of England’s leading Local Authorities in the promotion and delivery of energy efficiency projects. They appointed Briar Associates to undertake detailed energy and water audits across their corporate building portfolio to identify and quantify cost effective ‘invest to save’ energy, carbon, water and cost saving opportunities. The programme, which was successfully completed in less than 12 months delivered:
• Detailed energy and water audits of over 300 individual buildings across 122 sites
• The identification of over 10,000,000 kWh in energy savings, worth an estimated £721,000 per year
• The identification of over 19,000 m3 of water savings, worth an estimated £38,000 per year
• An overall payback on investment of less than 5 years
The success of the programme has subsequently prompted London Borough of Merton to undertake the ‘Merton Brighter Business Programme’, which is supporting 100 local businesses with free energy audits and grant funding for the installation of new low carbon technologies. Briar Associates have been appointed to manage this project as a result of the success of the original audit programme, combined with our extensive knowledge of the SME sector.
Our focus on identifying practical fast-track energy saving opportunities and assisting SME managers to understand and implement the solutions has added significant valuable to this programme. Briar also continue to support a range of other Local Authorities, Colleges, Academies and private schools to achieve substantial energy and financial savings.
“This complex energy audit programme has been a success and the audit reports have been really useful in enabling the council to identify and target the most cost effective energy, carbon, water and cost reduction opportunities across our corporate building portfolio.”
