Library LED Lighting

One project involved replacing the library lighting with more energy efficient luminaires and improving lighting controls. Mainly T8 fluorescent tube lights were replaced with LED alternatives (by Apollo). In addition new PIR controls (by Setsquare) were installed to provide presence based control in the bookshelf aisles.

Energy Performance

Monitoring of electricity consumption on the existing and new lighting has demonstrated energy savings of over 70% and a financial saving of over £4000 per month is being realised. This has exceeded our business case projections.

Project Complexity

Maintaining appropriate illumination levels was important so lighting design was crucial to ensure replacement luminaires provided a suitable environment for study and user comfort. The installation work was carried out during summer holidays, however the library remained operational throughout, so careful phasing of works and good communicati
